You could start your own Discord server to do this, but you’ll need to invite your friends to join it. If you want to keep things separate, you could add your friends on Discord instead. This allows you to send messages and make voice or video calls directly. Here’s how.
How to Add Friends on Discord Using the Website or Desktop App
The interface for Discord is similar on almost all platforms. If you want to add friends on your PC or Mac, you can follow these steps to add them using the Discord website or by using the desktop app for your platform.
Adding Friends Directly
To do this, open the Discord website or app and click the Home icon in the top-left.
In the direct messages list, press the Add Friend button.
In the Add Friend menu, you’ll need to type in the Discord tag of the friend you wish to add. Once you’ve added this, press Send Friend Request to send the friend request to that user.
Once that user has accepted the request, your new friend will appear in your Friends list.
Adding Friends in a Discord Server
You can also add friends you meet in a Discord server. To do this, head to the server containing your friend, then locate them in the channel user list on the right-hand side. Press the user’s name, then press the View Profile icon (containing their profile picture) in the pop-up menu.
In the user’s profile menu, press the Send Friend Request button. This will send the user a new friend request.
Once accepted, you can then press the Home icon in the top-left, then press the Friends tab to view your new friend.
From there, you can send them messages, start a voice or video call, and more.
Adding Friends Using the Discord Mobile App
The Discord app for iPhone, iPad, and Android users can also be used to add new friends. You can use the mobile app to add new friends directly, or by adding them from a Discord server you’re a member of. These steps will work for Android and Apple devices, as the Discord mobile interface is identical for both.
Adding Friends Directly
To add a new friend directly, open the Discord app on your mobile device, then select the Friends tab in the bottom menu. This will provide you with a list of your friends, showing whether they’re currently online or offline. To add a new friend, tap the Add Friend icon in the top-right corner.
You’ll need to provide the Discord username or tag in the box provided. Once you’ve typed this in, tap the Send Friend Request button.
You’ll need to wait for the friend request to be accepted. Once it has, your new friend will appear in the Friends tab.
You can then call or message the user by tapping the icons next to their username.
Adding Friends in a Discord Server
If you want to add a friend from a Discord server, you’ll need to select the Discord icon in the bottom-left corner. This will bring up your direct messages and channel lists. Select the channel you wish to view, containing the friend you’re looking to add. Open a channel, then press the channel user list icon in the top-right corner.
In the channel user list, tap the name of your friend. This will display their user profile in a pop-up menu. To add the user, tap the Add Friend button.
A friend request will be sent to the user. Once accepted, your new friend will appear in your Friends list.
Building a Discord Community With Friends
If you like Discord, then adding friends to your account is just one way to build a community of people you like to chat and play with. You can take things a step further by adding a bot to your Discord server, with support for extra moderation, fun games, shared music playback, and more. A Discord server is for all its members, but if you’re the owner or administrator, you may want to pin important messages in Discord to make sure they get read. These might include announcements or rules for other users to follow.
