Here’s what you should do to ensure that your iPhone or iPad behaves appropriately when daylight saving time ends on Nov. 6 at 2:00 AM.

Enabling Automatic Time Zone Settings in iOS

By default, your iOS device picks up the time zone based on your geolocation. You may have disabled this by accident (or maybe on purpose, to extend your battery life.) Make sure to enable this setting by going to Settings > General > Date & Time. Make sure that Set Automatically is enabled and the Time Zone is correct.

You can set it manually by disabling the Set Automatically setting and choosing your time zone. Restart your iOS device for good measure.

Disabling Automatic Time Zone Settings in iOS

This one’s for all my homies in Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Saskatchewan, and all those other areas that are too cool for DST! If you don’t want your iPhone or iPad to change anything on Nov. 6, then you can manually select your time zone and time. Do the same steps as above, but make sure you choose a city that doesn’t do DST.

You can also manually set your time. Again, make sure you restart your phone, so it takes effect.

Enabling Time Zone Override in Calendar

If you find that your appointments are all off by an hour before or after DST ends, you can enable Time Zone Override. Check your appointments right now, actually—sometimes iOS will adjust them in advance. Go to Settings > Calendar > Time Zone Override. Enable Time Zone Override and choose your Time Zone.

Time Zone Support in iCloud Calendar

If your iOS devices sync with your iCloud Calendar, you can change your settings on iCloud.com.

To change your time zone, log in to iCloud.com and go to Settings and click your region under Time Zone/Region – this only affects your calendar.

You can also open up your calendar, click Settings gear on the bottom-left and then click Preferences > Advanced.

Here, you can choose to Enable Time Zone Support.

Now you’ll have a time zone drop-down when you create events.

Conclusion

Okay, that’s all I have to say about time zones and daylight saving for your iOS device. Let me know how things go for you on Sunday morning. Did your iPhone time work as expected or was it buggy this year? Report it in the comments! Many thanks for your help I guess then Daylight Savings would be like making a bank deposit during business hours? Anyway, thanks for informing me. I’ll never make the mistake again!
